Bachmann’s Guernsey Location Proves its Worth for Transiting Yachts
Bachmann Yachts have completed an efficient, convenient and cost effective stop over in the Channel Islands for a well-known superyacht.
Bachmann Yachts as managers of a 46 metre superyacht with a high profile owner were recently contacted to arrange the whole transit stop-over of the vessel in Guernsey, including the refuelling exercise.
A fuel capacity of around 50,000 litres is not unusual for this size of yacht, and her captain and chief engineer are always seeking to take bunkers in the most reliable, price competitive locations. They also need to be assured of the purity of the marine diesel, and of the ability of the fuel station to deliver at sufficiently high volumes to fill such big tanks in a reasonable time.
Gary Le Cras head of yachting at Bachmann takes up the story: “We arranged all the formalities, including a berth in a totally secure compound, and then went personally with the pilot launch to attend whilst the yacht came alongside’ he said.
“Having negotiated the best possible duty free price for diesel at just 32 pence per litre, we also ensured that the delivery could be carried out at a high volume fill rate of 350 litres per minute.”
“The total fuel delivery was carried out from 5 x 10,000 litre tanker loads, with purity sampling carried out from each load and given to the engineer onboard for approval before commencing the fill. The whole bunkering process was completed without fuss and outside of normal working hours.”
Gary concluded, “ we were also on hand during the whole time the yacht was in Guernsey to use our local contacts, and arrange anything at all that the yacht or crew required.
For yachts transiting between Northern European destinations or yards and the Mediterranean, Guernsey is a natural stop over point, and with a shore side service such as that provided by Bachmann Yachts, there are plenty of good operational / financial reasons to make that decision.
