Clipper Round the World: 2nd Race Results Confirmed
All of the eleven teams competing in the Clipper Round the World Yacht Race have now completed the second leg of the event. Known as the 'Dell Latitude Rugged Ocean Sprint', this closely-fought section of the race saw just 3 hours and 21 minutes separating the teams: beating the others by just over an hour, Punta del Este was declared the winner.
The crew of Punta del Este won another three points for the win, which marks a two-in-two victory for ocean sprints. Ha Long Bay, Viet Nam scored two points for arriving in second place while just one second separated the two vessels vying for third place: Visit Sanya, China just snatched the win from Dare to Lead
Jeronimo Santos Gonzalez, the Skipper of Punta del Este was absolutely delighted to take the win. Speaking of the victory, he said: "To achieve this all crew have had the eyes on the ball, their concentration on making the most of both the wind conditions and the boat performance. Every member of the crew performing their duties to the best of their abilities". He also quoted the motto of the crew when making a manoeuvre: "Do it fast, do it now and do it right!"
Skipper of Dare to Lead Guy Waites was obviously disappointed about missing out on a point, especially by a margin of just one single second, but said he was 'undeterred'. Describing the current situation of the race, he said: "It's a rhumb line procession, a drag race, all lined up like little ducks, each six hourly scheds a comparison of SOG (speed over ground), the gains and losses are minimal when you consider the distances between each boat."
