Commercial Shipping & The Global Economy

The importance of commercial shipping to the global economy cannot be understated. Data from UNCTAD (United Nations Conference on Trade and Development) reveals that approximately 80% of the global trade in goods is handled by ships; this figure represents not just manufactured products but also crucial commodities like fuels, raw materials and agricultural produce.

When Bachmann Group was established five decades ago in 1974, our suite of services was small and available only to the owners and operators of yachts. In a  very short space of time and spurred on by our immediate success, we decided to branch out into the wider maritime sector. It is this pioneering spirit and commitment to constant improvement that has seen Bachmann Group grow to become Europe's largest and most highly-renowned marine employment specialist.

For more than 15 years, Bachmann Group has been a proud member of the UK Chamber of Shipping, an organisation with a history dating all the way back to 1878. As the officially-recognised 'voice of the UK shipping industry, the chamber represents around 200 member companies. Bachmann Group is also a member of the British Marine Federation: our ongoing membership in these authoritative organisations enhances our reputation for excellence, giving our clients the confidence that the services we provide are of impeccable quality.

In addition to membership of these external organisations, Bachmann Group also displays its commitment to the quality of our services with ISO 9001 certification in payroll, HR and offshore employment services. To gain and then subsequently maintain ISO 9001 certification, Bachmann Group was first required to prove that we have systems in place that allow us to provide services in a reliable, consistent and efficient manner. Then, we had to demonstrate that these systems and processes are applied effectively.

Over the fifty years that we have been working in the marine industries, Bachmann Group has established strong working relationships with numerous associated companies and organisations; combining these with our own considerable resources, we can reliably provide any and all of the services associated with operating vessels and employing seafarers for the vast and diverse commercial shipping sector. Our location in Guernsey, one of the Channel Islands and thus independent of both the UK and Europe, is ideally placed to allow us to provide commercial shipping services to clients based anywhere in the world.
