Planning a Yacht Trip? The Only Way is ESSEX!

Though the majority of coronavirus restrictions have now been lifted in the Channel Islands and the UK, many other countries still have them in place and the rules about travelling abroad grow more complex by the day.

If you're desperate to get out on your yacht and enjoy the magic of sea travel but you're worried about the impact that Covid might have, then why not sail a little bit closer to home? You might not believe us when we say this but one location that is great to take a yacht trip to is Essex!

Yes, you heard right! There are a number of islands in the area that are perfect for a visit: here are three of them...

Mersea Island

Mersea Island holds the title of being the most easterly inhabited island in the United Kingdom. At a size of seven square miles, the island is is pretty spacious and has room for quite a number of traditional pubs. There's also a small but very interesting museum to explore. As the causeway becomes totally flooded at high tide, preventing car access, the very best way to arrive is on the water.

Canvey Island

Canvey Island is often described as the 'lively cousin' of Mersea Island. Here, you'll find more in the way of tourist attractions, including an amusement park and a miniature railway ride. The island is connected to the mainland by two roads but, once again, arriving by boat is the best option.

Northey Island

For those who prefer something more tranquil, Northey Island is hard to beat. The island is designated by the National Trust as a nature reserve, offering a safe place for birds like shelducks, plovers and geese. Depending on the tides, the island can be as large as 300 acres or as small as 80.
